"Do You See Me Changing?" - Pink's Body Positive Message To Her Daughter

P!nk.  This woman is perfect.  She's fearless, strong, talented and kind and if you haven't seen it already her speech from Sunday's MTV VMAs will just prove that even more.

Pink went on stage to accept the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the highest honour that celebrates an artists contribution to music and film.  But even better than the fact that this deserving woman received this award, was the speech she gave when accepting it.

Pink told the story of how her six-year old daughter recently claimed she was 'the ugliest kid she knew' (heartbreaking!).

I look like a boy with long hair
— Willow, Pink's daughter

Pink told the audience she was so maddened by this - by the fact somebody had made her daughter feel this way - that she went home and made a powerpoint presentation that featured a selection of the greatest androgynous rockstars.

She said, ‘Well I look like a boy,’ and I said, ‘Well what do you think I look like?’ And she said, ‘Well you’re beautiful.’ And I was like, ‘Well, thanks. But when people make fun of me, that’s what they use. They say I look like a boy or I’m too masculine or I have too many opinions, my body is too strong.

Then the next bit had me applauding, Strong Women Squad, so read on, and then I recommend you check out the speech in full, just below...

And I said to her, ‘Do you see me growing my hair?’ She said, ‘No, mama.’ I said, ‘Do you see me changing my body?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?’ ‘Yes, Mama.’ ‘OK! So, baby girl. We don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.
